I have a question, well kind of an emergency.

I've put a layer of wash on my tanks it's gone well, but in an off light it shines in the pattern that it dried in. So you can see where the wash shrank as it dried it almost looks like brush marks in some places I've gone over with some thined down layers it's kind of working but any more and the colour would get to dark.

When the model is wet (just with water) the effect disapears. Would thin layer of matt varnish fix it?

Anyone else had this happen and should I worry about it. As you need to be close and tilting the model just the right way to catch the light to see it.

Thanks in advance to any replies that help me sort this out.

not sure this  will help you  smurf,
but how about some heavy dry brushing in white and then a light wash it over again to tone it down?
it might break up the stains and help to keep it light? sheep O.o ?)

I've had a huge amount of sucess sorting out my problem.

I started with a wash of white spirit in the hope it would lightly agitate the surface and evaporate quickly... It did absolutly nothing.

I then went for a light covering of Matt varnish it went on fine then dried still showing the marks... Now it was war.

My final idea was gloss varnish to take the shine off and give it a different one. After a test layer I was happy that the marks left was my shoddy brushmanship. Out came the spraygun and gone went the marks.

I know need to spray a matt finish over the top to make it look like the rest of my army, but I can now sleep knowing the problem is solvable. Honest I've lost sleep thinking about it!

Thank you guys for your ideas and support... Even if I didn't get around to using them.

I may have the wrong end of the stick but adding washing up liquid can help prevent the issue - it stops the ink pooling up. Not sure if that will help you but it worked for a friend on his Eldar stuff ie flat surfaces

This is the update I promised last week. They are shiny so be warned! The metals have been washed over and need retouching (I've just done that after taking these pictures). And I've yet to pick out the details on the models. Later today I'll be applying the base colours on all the fiddly bits and starting to work them up. I'll be leaving the gloss finish until the end, then I'll be spraying over a matt finish with my GW airbrush.... I love this tool and will be using it far more often in this army build. Now on with the pictures.

Yes I'm working on all three at once much to one of my gaming groups annoyance! They are a jealous bunch.

Fudge me you stole my speed!

You can't finish your marines faster than I finish mine! ;)

Looking excellent! Glad you solved the wash issue.

I just hope I can get the weathering and detail to look as nice. Then I'll make it look all normal again with a spray of matt varnish.

Well the weathering looked good.... Now it's time to keep my fingers crossed and hope it survives the matt varnish with out it going to flat!

It's went well I've got a little bit of touching up to do in the weathering... Being my first atempt it's not perfect. I'll get some pictures up by Sunday. The Matt Varnish I've used it awesome, but needs more than one coat to seal in the powder.... That's where I hit a problem I smudged it a little not knowing it haddn't fully sealed it.

I finally got around to taking pictures and every one bar two where slightly blurred. I could only tell once they where on the big screen... And being to lazy to go take more you've only got two images to look at this time. I'll put more up later on, but now it's nearly dinner time.... I love pork roasts.

As you can see I've yet to add text to the scrolls that's because I've not given any thought to what it might say, so I'll leave it for now rather than put on something I'll look back on with anger.
